Biography Timeline Example

Posted February 13, 2015

Here are a two examples from last year's class and a checklist to use as you create your own famous person's timeline.
  • Is your famous person's name posted in an important place?
  • Is the timeline a straight line?
  • Does your "paper doll" character resemble your famous person?
  • Did you plan ahead?  Two captions above the line and two below, so they all fit?
  • Are your important events in order from left to right?
  • Did you put your name on the paper?  Small writing in a corner would be best.
  • You may add items associated with your famous person to add to the effectiveness of your presentation.  The ball on the top example informs the reader that Pele must be from Brazil and....he must be a soccer player.  The addition of Pele's face provides additional important information.

Springtime is always a good time to feel "expressive!"  Here is a video made with descriptive paragraphs and prose inspired by our mentor text "The Best Part of Me" by Wendy Ewald. The wonderful photographs were taken by Tes H. (Aydan's mom).

Let's Vote!

Posted April 29, 2014

My great nephew Justin Whitehead (Mr. Dufort's brother's son's son), has been selected as the Google Doodle finalist for the state of Idaho for grades K-12.  They picked one creation from each state out of over 100,000 entries nationwide.  As a state finalist, he and one of his parents will be flown to Mountain View for a ceremony and a tour of the Google campus.  What a thrill and an honor!

His family has asked for our assistance to help him gain votes to WIN!  The winner receives a $30,000 scholarship AND a $50,000 grant for his/her school.

Tomorrow in the Computer Lab, we'll vote for Justin's entry in the grade 10-12 category and then you may vote for the entry of your choice in the other grades.  There's a K-3 category!

Perhaps one of you might be inspired to enter NEXT year?????

Click HERE for the link.  Make sure you are voting for "Veggies to Dessert" by Justin Whitehead.

After that, you may explore and vote for the other entries and be INSPIRED!!
Posted April 15, 2016
Tomorrow we will master the distributive property using the Rally Coach technique.  Sound like fun?  Let's see how much we can learn with a partner!

Star Party Video

Here is a video I made of our fun Star Party!

Death Valley Project

Posted April 2, 2014

Tomorrow, we will share our March Project Based Learning (PBL) Challenge.
Our Essential Question (EQ) was: How can we find out information about Death Valley and present it on-line for other students in the United States to see?
Here is a video narrative of our process.  Ask us anything about Death Valley--we know how to find the answer!

Our Whole Class Project

Posted March 29, 2014

What image makes you feel peaceful?
Let's create a class Google Presentation of images of "peacefulness" with your descriptive sentence.
We'll listen to Holst's "Venus, the Bringer of Peace" on Monday for inspiration.

Tellagami Time

Posted March 29, 2014

Let's try this app next week!  Who wants to be first???
You will upload a photo of your bird and read your Bird Paragraph.  You only get 30 seconds!
I used Alorah's quail photo because it was the first/only photo on our new class iPad.
I also would like to have some volunteers post some facts about Death Valley. They all need to be made on the same iPad so I can put them in iMovie and then upload them to YouTube.

Lucky Charms National Graphing Project

Posted March 16, 2014

On St. Patrick's Day we will participate in research to prove or disprove the group hypothesis that there are more green clovers in a box of Lucky Charms than any other marshmallow shape.

We will also determine our own class hypothesis before we begin counting.

After we count, we will visit the Computer Lab and graph our results using Create a Graph

Here are two videos we might watch with facts about St. Patrick's Day.
